New York’s Energy From My Perspective
There has always been something alluring to me about New York City. New York City is not such an easy city to define though. I’ve explored the great Istanbul, walked the streets of the eternal city of Rome, and sat in the cool sand under the most beautiful night sky in the Moroccan Sahara. However, when it comes to cities, I can say that New York is special. After living here for even the small time that I have, I can say that it is truly a city like no other I’ve experienced. Sure every place has something special to offer, but when it comes to cities, this one is among the most unique.
What makes NYC so unique is not its buildings and skyline, the nightlife, or even the New Yorker mentality. New York is unique because of all of those reasons and more. It is diverse, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and offers something for everyone. You can be in a bustling and noisy city street one minute and on a relaxing walk through Central Park the next. You can walk through a neighborhood filled with people from the Indian subcontinent as the smell of fresh curry and spices stimulate your senses, then two streets later be walking through crowds of Spanish speakers. There are over 800 languages and dialects spoken in the City, and the neat thing is you do not have to try very hard to find them. With those languages comes amazing food from around the globe. It is a polyglot’s daydream and a people watcher’s heaven.
You meet so many people who come to the City on a whim, to take a chance, and get to experience the City’s energy, challenges, and oneness. So many immigrants who have gone through countless struggles just to make a better life for their families, and so many people from different walks of life. There are the work-a-holics and those who just take life one step at a time. Everyone is here and they find a way to make it work. There is adversity to overcome, and new territory to be explored.
Not everything is perfect, but is there a place that is? The winter is cold; the summer is bold. There is traffic, but yet tranquility. In a city of chaos, you can find your inner peace. I don’t know if I will be here forever, but for the moment, I am enjoying what the City has to offer. What do you love most about New York?
