When you are traveling, there are some unwritten laws that I believe should be followed. They are more moralistic than real laws, but still nevertheless I feel that they are relevant to all travelers.
- Manners
- It’s all about the experience
- How fortunate you are
These may seem like a somewhat different list, but it is what I feel works. People should never forget their manners when traveling. Manners does not just mean you dinner side table manners that your parents drilled into your head as a kid. I am additionally referring to how you respect others differences and cultural practices. Never forget that traveling is about the experience. Bring in themes like, live and let live. When you travel look for win-wins and build community. There is no point in the experience not being enjoyable for everyone. Lastly, never forget how fortunate you are to be able to travel. Traveling is a privilege, not a right. If you get the chance to travel, realize that not everyone has the opportunities that you do.
I am glad I found this post, it was just what I needed.
No problem Jim. Glad that I was able to write something for you!
So true! We always think about everything else, except the important things like these. Thanks!
I agree. My favorite is the last one. I think that we often forget how fortunate we really are just to have experiences.
You are so right. I do some wine writing and made three trips to France in 2012. So few ever get to Europe at all!
Very true Howard, even more will probably never leave their region. I am so happy that you get to spend so much time in France. It must be nice tasting all that wine! Thanks for commenting!
