Random Fact: It is said that there are more people who live in the United States and claim Irish ancestry, then the number of people who live in Ireland.  Also, by using the harp, Ireland is the only country to use a musical instrument as its national symbol.

Overview: Ireland really is the beautiful country of green.  When you travel through the countryside you will see a picturesque landscape overlooking the rolling grassy hills.  Its coastlines are mostly covered by enormous rock faces and cliffs.  Despite years of conflict from a persistent British colonial army, the Irish people have been able to keep up their Irish ways.  From the Gaelic language to the ancient celtic culture, Ireland is truly a place worth visiting.

Getting around

Both buses and trains are quite accessible around Ireland.  You can click the links above to find information about Bus Éireann or Irish Rail.  The websites are very functional and easy to navigate.  The bus prices are generally slightly cheaper, but may take longer to arrive at the destination.

Someone told me that you can rent a car for quite cheap in Ireland. It is also a good way to see the island because you can stop at the places you want.  Perhaps, check some of the rental companies for options.

I have heard of people hitchhiking successfully around Ireland, so if this is something that you seek to do then it is a possible option for you.

Additionally, the people at hostels typically try to push the bus tours on you.  I found that the bus tours were quite overpriced, and as a friend told me you cannot go where you want. You have to get back on the bus and leave when they leave. You do not get enough time at each place. The choice is yours.
