Hostel Management Tips

So now that I have started to work as a hostel manager, I have decided to open up a new series on my site. I’d like to introduce you to this new section on hostel management and tips for running a hostel. I will be sharing what I learn along the way, my experiences, tips, tools, and maybe even some case studies.

I am drawing from my experiences working in several hostels in 4 different countries as well as all the hostels that I have stayed with in the past. I’ll be sharing things as I see them fit. This will be a way for me to teach others what I learn while reflecting on what I am actually doing myself.

My experiences have taken me volunteering in Spain, Croatia, and Turkey while I have stayed in hostels on 4 continents. I am currently managing a hostel in the Caribbean and will be based here for the foreseeable future.

You can expect to read a variety of topics ranging from human resource issues, cleanliness, rule-setting, goal making, cost-analysis and more. You will be able to read them all here. At any time, you can also view them from the home page.

Due to obvious reasons, I won’t likely be giving any specific details about the hostel that I am managing, but I will be writing about topics that I think would be relevant and useful to other hostel managers.

I hope that you find them useful and interesting. Please feel free to contact me regarding any specific questions that you may have and I will do my best to answer them holistically.

If you wish to follow along then be sure to subscribe to my website and follow me on social media. You can do either by clicking the links below.

  1. Best of luck in your new role Andy.

It sounds like it will be a very interesting set of articles helping us to see things from the other side. I love all these TV shows where hotel owners talk of the horror stories of nightmare guests. Maybe you’ll have some very fun and bizarre tales to tell.

    • Many thanks for the kind words! I will definitely be sharing some of the ins and outs of this business as well as the occasionally horror story. I will likely make a huge compilation at the end of the best and the worst. I can tell you firmly after only two months that there will inevitably be some tales to tell.

  2. And we’re all looking forward to your hostel management posts..
