Tips for visiting in 2026
- Go mid-week and in the morning to beat the crowds. Weekends and afternoons are busiest; the July 4 weekend especially will be packed.
- Bring cash for plants, food, and the roadside vendors on the way in.
- Dress for the mountains. Aibonito is cooler than the coast, but you’ll be outdoors all day, bring sun protection and comfortable shoes.
- Plan how you’ll get plants home. If you’re flying to the US mainland, check USDA plant-inspection rules before buying.
- Allow travel time. It’s about 1.5 hours by car from San Juan on winding mountain roads. See our tips for getting around Puerto Rico.
Follow along for updates

Festival schedules in Puerto Rico can shift, and the organizers post the freshest information on their own social channels. For any event you’re planning around, I’d check the festival’s own Facebook and Instagram close to your visit, they’ll have the most current details. Puerto Rico often runs on Facebook and word of mouth for this kind of thing.

Planning your trip
Coming to Puerto Rico for the festival? A few quick pointers:
- Make it a mountain day. The Ruta del Lechón (Pork Highway) in Guavate, Cayey, is right on the way from San Juan, easy to combine with the festival. It also happens to be a staple Puerto Rican street food item. See our Central Mountains guide.
- Build out the rest of your trip with our Puerto Rico travel guide.
- Love the island’s festivals? See our guides to SanSe and the Yauco Coffee Festival.
