Brief Overview: Ahh Deutschland the country of beer and bratwurst!  Just kidding. Stereotypes aside, there is far more to Germany than just drinking beer from a stein (mas) and eating good sausages.  Outside of being the strongest and most vibrant European economy, Germany is historically rich.

Dating back to Roman times and all the way up to recent wars, the German people have been at the cusp of some of history’s most major events.  Arising from the destruction of WWII to become one of the strongest and most well-developed nations in the world is a truly fascinating feat.  A testament to the determination and stong work ethic of the German people.

Berlin is a wonderful place to visit, and I strongly recommend stopping by if you have the chance.  To this day, it remains as one of my favorite cities.  In the south, you can visit the region called Bavaria, and cities like Munich.  Munich, although famous for its Oktoberfest, also boasts several castles around the city, including the one for which Walt Disney supposedly modeled the trademark castle after.  Other areas such as Hamburg, Bremen, or even Western Germany also offer nice cities well worth visiting.

Winters can be brutal in much of Germany, and can stay somewhat cold into the summers. Nonetheless, visiting during the warmer months would likely be more ideal for most travelers.

Getting around

Germany is an extremely functional and outsider friendly country.  Getting around in Germany is made quite simple by their vast interconnected network of roads and train routes. Trains are frequent and always on time.

Your best options in Germany are to either take a train, bus, or carpool.  If you wish to take a train or use their train system, then check out Bahn, which is their national train website.  Trains will be the most expensive though, but they are also the fastest.  So, people in a hurry should look to this as an option.  Buses are also quite useful.  They can be found from a website like Berlin Linien, or from any bus station.

Lastly, carpoolers and hitchhikers can use Mitfahr (now BlaBla car), which is the most widely used and supported carpooling and ride share website.
