A brief history of the Louisiana fleur-de-lis

The fleur-de-lis is closely linked with the history of Louisiana.  The French legacy in Louisiana, is one that dates back to the early days of the State when the Acadians first migrated from Nova Scotia seeking exile from their former colony.  The were following in the footsteps of the early French explorers who had encountered the lands in trekking the Mississippi.  The fleur-de-lis, meaning “lily flower” or “flower of the lily” in French, remained with the French cultural heritage.  French is still spoken in some parts of Louisiana and many people claim to be of French, or Cajun, heritage.

*The fleur-de-lis pictured here are not of my work.  They are only pictures of the Louisiana fleur-de-lis that I took around Louisiana.
