A local Louisiana brewery – Free Beer Tasting and Tours on Saturday

The other day I found out about a local micro-brewery just outside of Lafayette, Louisiana.  Skeptical at first, I believed nothing so unique could be established just minutes from where I live. I should be so lucky.

Fortunately, I found out about Parish Brewery through a few friends (word-of-mouth at its finest).  I was told about this brewery in Broussard, Louisiana where there were free tours and tasting. Free beer!! I couldn’t resist.

It turns out that owner Andrew, founded the brewery in 2008 and has been steadily crafting tasty beer since then.  According to his site, Andrew left the corporate world to work with his passion for good beer.  From that time, his company brand has grown quite substantially and now has made an impact in the local beer market.

Parish brewery offers a few select beers; however, their most popular beer is by far, Canebrake.  Canebrake is distributed to a variety of local businesses.  Grand Reserve, a barley wine, is also distributed from Parish Brewery.  I tested both, including another, and was well-pleased with all of them.

I recently visited the Parish Brewery and they have added a cool bar room for sampling their different beers. Worth a visit!

Parish Brewery has free tours every Saturday from 3 to 5pm (15:00-17:00)! You can visit their micro-brewery and taste their products.  It is a really nice thing to do on a Saturday afternoon, which is why it is now included both in things to do in Lafayette, Louisiana and things to do in Louisiana.  It is fun, filling, and you learn something about how beer is processed.  What more could you ask for?

Where they are going?  I see Parish Brewery as becoming increasingly more known in the area.  They are doing a good job marketing their products as well as creating quality beer.  Two attributes that won’t go unnoticed.  Currently, due to licensing restrictions, they are unable to sell alcohol on the premises, but they expect being able to in the near future. I was told that they have hopes of expanding the warehouse and creating a bar area for people to stop by and have a beer.

If you are in the area and looking for something new to do, I recommend you to check out Parish Brewery.  Support local small businesses by trying their products. I think you’ll enjoy them!

What you need to know:

Years ago when I first started visiting Lafayette and surrounding areas it was impossible to find a good beer – all there was to be found was the chemical industrial stuff that tastes like water. On my last trip though I was pleasantly surprised to find the local watering holes had a nice assortment of local craft beers! I will definitely have to try the offerings from Parish Brewery on my next trip to Louisiana!

  3. Definitely Paul. There are a lot of microbreweries popping up. Parish Brewery puts out some good beer and they have free tours and tasting on Fridays. Other notable people making microbrews are Speyrer Brewery by Ryan Christopher Washispack Speyrer. You should check it out, some good brews > https://www.facebook.com/SpeyrerBrewing

  4. Visited Parish Brewing awhile back as we are in the process of doing the entire Louisiana Craft Brew trail. It was a very cool operation and we tasted some delicious beer. Envie is one of my current favorites. Bayou Teche Brewing in Arnaudville was also a lot of fun to check out.
